Saturday at the Art Fair

It was art fair weekend in my town and my husband and I spent an enjoyable afternoon strolling the closed off main street and looking at all the exhibits. There was a line of tents as far as we could see and the weather was perfection - blue sky, sun and comfortable temperatures for walking around and shopping.

I am always drawn to those exhibits that are the most colorful; full of light and sparkle. There were many kinds of garden art, also a favorite, but at the moment, my garden does not need any more art pieces. Looking and imagining is still fun though :-)

These candle lanterns, made from etched wine bottles were very pretty, but one of the first things we spotted and I never made it back to this tent. I could see a couple hanging in my backyard trees on a beautiful summer night.

After walking up one side of the street, we found a outside table at a mexican restaurant and spent an enjoyable hour or two drinking margaritas and eating some yummy food - my shrimp enchiladas were so good.

What did I buy? I was looking for a bracelet to replace the one purchased at the art fair last year, and sadly lost. I found the artist and was happy to buy a new fun yellow, pink and black bracelet that I will enjoy wearing all summer long with all kinds of outfits.

It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Happy Monday!

Green Jars and Wildflowers

I have been wanting to buy the green glass mason jars ever since I saw them. Finding some at my grocery store, I immediately knew exactly what I would use them for. They needed to be in my sunny kitchen, filled with wildflowers - perfect for the summer months.

The sun shines so brilliantly through the green glass, almost giving it a glow. I lined up four mason jars in a wicker basket - so simple and sweet, but really making a statement.

Filling the jars with wildflowers was easy. At the moment, we have a profusion of wild phlox blooming everywhere I look, in the woods. The colors are so amazing, ranging from deep purple, to lavender, to white. On my walk yesterday, I simply found a patch that was not close by anyone's house, so I wouldn't take away their enjoyment of the wild blooms and cut bunches and bunches, placing them in a bag I brought along. When I finished my walk, I filled all four jars with water and the pretty blooms.

The woods will soon have more and different wildflowers for me to use in these jars and I also plan to fill them with daisies from my garden. Simplicity, but oh so pretty :-)

Have a wonderful weekend!

Summer Reading List

My summer reading list consists of some highly anticipated books by many of my favorite authors. It is a mix of chick lit, mysteries and historical fiction. I foresee many days ahead, losing myself in one of these books, maybe sitting outside on my patio with a glass of wine nearby, or maybe relaxing on a lounge chair at the pool. There is just something special about the combination of a quiet summer day and a good book :-)

First, the book I have been anticipating for so long, by my favorite author, will be available June 10th. Written In My Own Heart's Blood is the continuation of Jamie and Claire Fraser's story and will pick up in the midst of the American Revolution. This is the 8th book in the series and each one has effectively moved the story along, weaving both the past and present together, seamlessly. I have never been dissapointed in one of these books.

All Fall Down, by Jennifer Weiner will be released on June 17th and promises to be filled with emotion and strong, but flawed characters, like her other books. Another favorite by this author is In Her Shoes.

Another favorite author, JoJo Moyes, has a new book available July 1st and I have enjoyed reading all of her previous books. She is the kind of author who made me fall in love with her bestsellers (especially Me Before You), but also had me searching to find some of her early, less popular books to read.

The Book of Life, the third book in the All Souls Triolgy will be available July 15th. This is the story of Diana Bishop, a scholarly witch and her relationship with a handsome vampire. The historical detail, as they move from present day to the past and the description of the historical figures they encounter is both interesting and intriguing.

Intrepid British spy, Maggie Hope will be back, July 1st in a new book detailing her adventures in World War II. This is the fourth book in the series and Maggie has been involved with intrigue both in England and behind Nazi lines, in Germany. She is new to the spy business, but has an endearing attitude that helps her succeed on her missions.

Happy Reading!
