Ribbon Candle Vignette

I can't resist lighting candles throughout my home, this time of year. As the light fades in the early evening, there is a pull to create a cozy glow that chases away the darkness. This simple ribbon candle vignette was inspired by one I created for St. Patrick's Day here, making a few changes for the season.

Using two tall pillar candles of staggered height, I added a length of harvest themed ribbon to the smaller one by securing it with gold, pearl topped pins. The pins easily push into the candle.

Next I repeated the process with burlap ribbon and white, pearl topped pins. The pins add a special finishing touch and hold everything secure.

For my third candle in the vignette, I decided to use a harvest scented jar candle. Part of the charm of lighting candles, is the wonderful scent that fills your home and you need a good quality jar candle for this. I can replace it easily throughout the fall season, as it burns down. All three candles sit on a clear glass plate.

For very little effort, I have created a unique and beautiful candle grouping that will add warmth and fall color to my kitchen counter.

Happy Tuesday!

A Perfect Night for a Parade

We spent a wonderful night on the MSU campus, this past Friday, at the annual homecoming parade and were thrilled to see Melissa and her pompon team performing. The theme this year was "be a superhero" and it was fun to see the girls wearing capes, proudly stating "SpartansWill" on their backs.

The floats and participants all embraced the theme and even the MSU mascot, Sparty wore a mask and a cape, for the event.

The weather could not have been more perfect, for a night on campus and we were very comfortable sitting in our chairs along the parade route. We happily watched the various sports teams pass by and sang the fight song with the MSU band. We cheered as loud as we could when it was the pompon team's turn to march by, doing their fabulous routine, set to music and thrilling the crowd of parade spectators.

After the parade, we took a short walk to a restaurant near campus and had dinner with Melissa and a few of her friends. It is always such a joy for us to be on campus, watch her perform and spend time with her.

Happy Monday!

Early Fall Color and Light

While in my yard or on my daily walk, the ever changing color and light of early fall has caught my eye this week. This single, red maple leaf fell and landed ever so perfectly, on top of this mum - the colors are so vibrant.

It is too early for much color on the trees, but the splashes of red and yellow against the blue sky are signs of the beauty to come.

The light and shadows of fallen leaves on this stream, make me pause on the bridge to enjoy the setting.

As I walk through the woods, the fall light, illuminates the vibrant color, as it shines through the leaves.

It is a wonderful time of year to enjoy the changes of color and light on the many paths I walk in my neighborhood. The paths are filled with fallen leaves that crunch under my feet as I walk and I am reminded to enjoy the fleeting beauty of fall.

Have a wonderful weekend!
