Paper Cut Out Candle Holder - Pinterest Success {20}

Megan surprised me with these pretty handmade candle holders for Mother's Day, and I was thrilled to receive them. They are just the prettiest things and when lit, the candle light shines through the heart with a sweet, soft glow. And, I love the addition of the twine bow on the glass.

The original pin with directions can be found here. You can use any glass jar or candle holder. These would look really sweet using mason jars too. The directions call for the use of an old book page, but Megan was able to find similar scrapbook paper that worked well for the size of the jar she used. These would be adorable for a wedding shower and Megan and I were already talking about making more for other occasions. We both thought a cut out snowflake would be really pretty for the winter.

Even though the days are longer and the sun shines brighter, I still light candles when dusk occurs each day. These will be a beautiful addition and because they were made with love by my daughter, they will warm my heart each time I use them :-)

Have a great day today!

A Happy, but Chilly Mother's Day

We had a really happy, but very chilly Mother's Day weekend that included a breakfast, a brunch, a baseball game and wonderful presents. The presents included flowers, a pretty flower bead for my Pandora bracelet and a really unique tray with chevrons and a monogram in colors to match my upcoming kitchen project. Look for my post tomorrow for photos and instructions on a additional handmade gift I received from Megan.

The weekend started with breakfast with my parents and Melissa. Time with older parents is always so precious.

Saturday night, we spent a chilly, but fun, few hours in Detroit, watching the Tigers. Luckily we took a blanket to keep us warm, because the temperature by the end of the game, was 43 degrees!

My family took me to our club for brunch on Mother's Day and it was a lovely time with really great food. We laughed and talked throughout the afternoon.

My favorite part of the meal and a splurge for me was the dessert buffet. Everything was in small portions - which is perfect for sampling all the goodies. I tried the warm apple cobbler, a chocolate chip cannoli, a key lime square and my absolute favorite dessert - creme brûlée.

My husband and daughters made me feel special - I hope you had a Happy Mother's Day too :-)

Happy Monday!

Tulips Blooming on Mother's Day Weekend

In the fall, I planted a lot of tulip bulbs hoping for blooms in the spring. Slowly, but surely, first the leaves popped up, then the flower stems and buds. Now, in the past few days, the pink and yellow flowers have opened and the sight of these make me so happy. It is always amazing to me that those bulbs you lovingly plant, survive and florish, in spite of the harsh winter and the best efforts of the squirrels to dig them up. Nature really is a miracle. You can read the story of how I planted the bulbs here.

Our Mothers's Day weekend is full of activity, starting this morning. Melissa and I will be taking my mother to breakfast to celebrate an early Mother's Day with her. Saturday night, we will be going to Comerica Park for the Detroit Tiger's baseball game with my sister and brother in law - one of my favorite places to go. Then Sunday, on Mother's day, we will attend mass together and then have a delicious brunch at our club. The food there is so yummy and I will give myself permission to splurge on eggs benedict, mimosas and a dessert or two :-)

Happy Mother's Day!

A very special Mother's Day wish to my mother here in Michigan.

And to my mother in law in Florida.
