Three Recipes for Mother's Day Brunch

Mother's Day bunch is one of my favorite meals of the year. It is a wonderful occasion to make a pretty table setting and serve those special brunch items that any mom would love to eat. We all love to pamper our moms and these recipes will definitely make her smile. They can be the sweet accompaniment to your favorite egg casserole or can stand on their own. I like to prepare a variety of dishes for the brunch buffet, so there are both savory and sweet items to choose from. These recipes will help make a beautiful presentation on your brunch buffet and can all be prepared the day before, so you can relax on Mother's Day too.

Simple Spring Porch

Spring is ever so slowly coming to Michigan and the first day of May seemed the perfect time to add a little color to my front porch. Not the bright colors and abundance of summer flowers, but a slow progression, with just a hint of things to come. I like to use different textures, including flowers, burlap and some shiny colored glass. It's a time to sweep away the cobwebs and make some subtle additions that say spring has arrived.

I found this lovely basket of colorful pansies at the garden center and placed them in a flower pot, next to the front door. They add such a pop of springtime color and are so welcoming. Pansies are the only flower we can safely leave out in early May and their pretty blooms will carry us through, until planting season at the end of the month.

A corner table holds a grapevine wreath, decorated with just a touch of neutral burlap ribbon. The green, glass garden ball is unexpected and a great contrast to the more natural elements.

My front door holds the door hanging I made using nests and burlap ribbon. During Easter it was part of my inside decor, but I moved it outside as a transition piece from Easter to summer on my door. See how I made this unique door hanging here.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Farewell to Cristina

If you are a Grey's Anatomy fan, tonight's show is one that you have been both dreading and anticipating all season. Tonight is the the first part of the final show with Cristina Yang and also the return of her former love, Dr. Burke. The past few episodes have been leading up to her departure from the hospital and how the return of Dr. Burke will play into her decision.

This is one network drama that I continue to watch and enjoy. It has had its ups and downs throughout the years, but in the background has always been the relationship between Meredith and Cristina. They were each others "person" from the first day they arrived as interns. It has been a friendship that has survived and one that shows how women support each other. Too often, television portrays friendship between women as immature; backstabbing and petty. This friendship was different and I think closer to what we all have with our friends. They were simply there for each other.

Tonight, I will be watching the end of an era on Grey's Anatomy. It will go on, with Meredith, Derek, and the Chief, but a vital piece will be missing for me.

Happy May Day!
