A Sneak Peek at Downton Abbey 6

There is a trailer floating around the Internet from Downton Abbey's final season and it looks to be heart wrenching. Season 6 begins later this month in England, but as always, I will wait until it is shown here in the USA in January. I will do my best to avoid spoilers, but the trailer does give an idea and a few glimpses of what might happen.

It will be hard to say goodbye to these characters that have become such a lovely part of our Sunday nights in the wintertime. January is a dismal month, but the premiere of Downton Abbey always gives me something to look forward to. For a sneak peek, click here for the trailer on You Tube, grab a tissue and get your first glimpse of a season to remember.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Tailgate Season Has Arrived

College Football starts this weekend and it is like Christmas and my birthday all rolled into one. It really is my favorite time of the year. We have Michigan State University season tickets and we tailgate before the games, with a big group of people. We have our spot picked out and will be working on some great menus that will range from breakfast to grilling burgers. There are four home games in a row, to start the season, so we will be taking advantage of the wonderful weather in September and early October and enjoying some perfect fall days on MSU's beautiful campus.

I am excited to try some new recipes this year, as well as some of my old standbys. To come up with some new ideas, I turned to Pinterest and found some great ideas. I think I am also going to invest in a chafing dish this year to have the ability to keep things warm. Following are some recipes from my Pinterest Tailgate! board that I would like to try.

Meatball Sliders

Easy Baked French Toast Casserole

Fruit and Doughnut Kabobs

Cuban Sliders

Doritos Taco Salad

I think we have a delicious season of tailgating ahead and I can hardly wait. Not a healthy dish in the bunch, but that's not what football Saturdays are about :-)

Go Green and Happy Wednesday!

What You Do

I try to do what I can for my parents. They still live in the same house I grew up in, in the same small town and really, considering their age, do pretty well. There are the usual aches and pains that come with old age and some memory issues too, but they take care of each other.

Yesterday, I took them some food I had been storing in the freezer. Just some meals that I cook and then put a portion aside and save in a freezer container. It's a small thing, but it helps them to have a few meals to pull out that are readymade and no trouble to reheat.

We had a picnic at a pretty park yesterday and sat and talked for quite a while. There is a nice pond, walking trails and even an old mill. I encourage them to get out of the house as much as possible and I think this reminded them of a nice place that they could easily go to. They are still quite active and do walk most days, but a change of scenery is good for anyone.

With elderly parents, who still live alone, there is worry most of the time, but you do what you can, to stay involved and keep in touch. As with anything else, it's the little things that matter the most.

Happy Monday!
