The Weekend with A Dinner and A Movie

When you have plans on a Friday night, the weekend seems to stretch out before you with infinite possibility. We were invited to a friend's house for dinner and all day, I was looking forward to the company, as well as a glass of wine. It was the perfect post holiday dinner, where we could catch up after the craziness of the holidays. The food was wonderful, from the main course to dessert and it was one of those evenings where we sat around the table talking and laughing, late into the night. Where you suddenly look at your watch at realize how late it is :-)

After a lazy day on Saturday, mostly spent reading, my daughter and I went to see a movie on Sunday. I wanted to see Saving Mr. Banks over the holidays, but never found the time. I am so glad we saw it and it was actually even better than I had imagined. First of all, I love Emma Thompson and she was wonderful in this role - the perfect straight laced British matron who doesn't know what to make of California and Walt Disney. The scenes where the script and the songs for Mary Poppins are bring hashed out and written are filled with facinating detail. The retro 60's look of Los Angeles is perfect too. All together a unique and interesting look at how the Mary Poppins movie was made and a glimpse behind the Disney curtain.

Happy Monday!

My 2014 List

A new year in front of me and as things return to day to day normalcy after the holidays, I like to think about the things ahead of me in this new year. Not really resolutions, but more like things to look forward to. Things that will get me through a long winter and the anticipation of a good year.

There are some updates to my home I want to accomplish this year. After updating my kitchen, I am motivated to tackle some other projects in 2014. My guest bathroom will be first on the list and I already have some ideas pinned. Then, my daughter's bathroom will have the wallpaper stripped and a fresh new coat of paint. I also plan on recovering my dining room chairs - I can't wait to pick out the fabric.

The Winter Olympics are something I look forward to watching, along with a new Detroit Tigers baseball season. I love watching baseball in the summer and will try to attend more games. There is nothing like being at a baseball park on a beautiful summer night.

One of my favorite authors and book series will have a new book published in June. Written In My Own Heart's Blood, the newest book by Diana Galbadon in the Outlander series is finally coming and I look forward to reading it, sitting in the sun, next to the pool. Sounds perfect on this January day!

This is an exciting year for my both of my daughters and I look forward to their successes. When they are happy, I am happy :-)

I look forward to the continued growth of this blog and a continued relationship with all of you. I enjoy the creativity writing brings to my life and the relationships I have built with those who read.

One of my goals is to entertain more, go out to dinner more - just socialize a little more. I tend to be a homebody, but would like to break out of that comfort zone.

This is not a complete list by any means, but it's a start and a way to bring focus to a new year. I am optimistic 2014 will be a good one and look forward to all that is coming. Life in my empty nest is good :-)

Have a great weekend!

Thoughts for Thursday...cold, cocoa, etc.

It's hard to think of anything else when the weather is so bitter cold and the snow is so deep. We are having a real old fashioned winter and even my puppy doesn't quite know what to make of it. She likes snow, but when it is deeper that her body, she pretty much sticks to the path I have shoveled for her. It is going to be a long winter :-)

What did we do before owning a Keurig? Ours is being put to use, all day long, when a simple hot drink in a favorite mug can warm you up and make you feel so cozy. We make coffee, tea and lately our favorite is cocoa. It is just perfect for these cold winter days and done in just a few seconds. I love my Keurig!

I really enjoyed the season 4 premiere of Downton Abbey. There has been some Internet talk that it was boring and depressing, but I think it was a perfect start to portray how the whole household was dealing with Matthew's death. It is the little things I love about Downton - the daily life, both upstairs and downstairs. I think all the storylines of the season were set up well and there is a lot of drama to look forward to. Especially Lady Edith's ill fated romance and Lady Mary's inevitable clashes with her father over the running of the abbey.

The Bachelor is back and it looks to be an entertaining season. I could not watch it without the spoilers - it is so much more interesting when you know the outcome. Here's a funny recap that makes me laugh every week. There should be a lot to laugh at this season :-)

Happy Thursday!
