Chalkboard Serving Platter

I have been wanting to do a project with chalkboard paint and when I saw the ideas for chalkboard serving platters and trays here and here on Pinterest, I was inspired. It was simple, quick and the possibilities for creative uses with this platter are endless. Wouldn't it be cute to use for any holiday and write a greeting? Or, put a variety of cheeses and label them right on the platter? And, for tailgating season, I will be writing Go State in green chalk!

The thing that I wondered about was cleaning the platter after use, but I was happy to see both the chalk and all food residue can be wiped off easily, with a damp paper towel.

I'm looking forward to using this tray often as the fall season approaches. Here is a simple tutorial on how I made it. The inexpensive platter is from Target and the paint is Martha Stewart brand, from Michaels.

1. Lightly sand platter where chalkboard paint will go and wipe clean. Dry well.

2. Paint 1st coat; allow to dry completely. Paint 2nd coat; allow to dry at least 24 hours.

3. Write your message and enjoy :-)

Have a great day!

Holding On To Summer

Weather wise, this has been a funny summer. Rainy, cloudy and cool. The pool days have been few and far between, so at this point, with the end of August looming, I chose to have a pool day, regardless of the clouds in the sky. I didn't let those clouds bother me at all, as I had a lovely lunch poolside. My country club's pool has the best wrap sandwiches and their club sandwich is amazing too and always a favorite.

I had my iced tea, within reach, on the table next to my chair. I even had the waitress bring me a gin and tonic later in the afternoon. There is nothing as relaxing as a cocktail, poolside.

There is a lovely view of the golf course, behind the pool, with tall grasses to ensure privacy. The clouds were still hanging in at this point, but blue sky was beginning to peek through.

My pretty flip flops - my summertime shoe - were kicked off at the end of my lounge chair.

And, as the sun finally broke through the clouds, my old standby book was ready to be read again. Lunch by the pool, a drink in my hand and a good book to enjoy - I am holding on to summer as long as I can :-)

Happy Monday!

Friday Fragments

It is so nice to put together a bouquet from the flowers around my yard. I take my clippers and snip a blossom here and there, along with whatever may be blooming in the woods. This one included the last daisy of the season. Hopefully it will be awhile before I need to purchase flowers from the grocery store.
The Cheesecake Factory is opening its first restaurant in Michigan very close to me on Tuesday and I look forward to eating there soon. I think I will wait out the first few weeks of madness though. According to a news article I read, there are expected to be long lines for the opening. I do love their cheesecake, but not enough to brave the crowds - or it might be a great idea to get a piece (or two) to go :-)
What can I say about The Bachelorette Finale? I read the spoilers and thought up until the last five minutes that Brooks was somehow coming back. I was shocked there was a proposal and an acceptance in light of the excessive crying over Brooks leaving. The show stretches the imagination anyway, but this ending was even more unbelievable. It made for some entertaining viewing at our watch party though. My friends and I were coming up with ending senarios that kept changing as the show went on. It was fun to have a glass of wine together and share our opinions of the craziness that is this show!
On Kelly's Korner, Show Us Your Life series, she is looking for recommendations of favorite apps today. The app I use the most, is the app that allows me to blog using my iPad. The Blogsy app couldn't be easier to use and allows a seamless transfer of pictures from iPhone to iPad to blog. You just drag and drop the photo where it goes in the post you are writing - no downloading involved. And, since the most recent update, any drafts you keep on file can be easily updated and sent to Blogger for posting. If you are thinking about using an iPad for blogging - this is a great way to accomplish that.
Have a wonderful weekend!
