The Moose Was Wearing a Wreath

I attended a ladies night dinner at our dining club ( it's a hunting and fishing club, even though we don't do either) on Monday evening and thought it would be fun to show you how they go all out and even decorate the wild animals. There are a lot of different and unique decorations in the blogosphere, but I bet this is one of the few photos of a moose wearing a wreath!

The dinner was lovely and even though I wasn't able to take any photos, I hope I can do it justice by describing the menu. It was a tasting menu of small portions, paired with wine, and both were delicious.

First Course - arugula salad with a sambuca soaked, breaded pear, crumbled blue cheese and sugared pecans - paired with champagne

Second Course - linguine with clam sauce - paired with Pinot Grigio

Third Course - veal medallion with a red wine reduction sauce and gnocchi - paired with a red wine blend.

Dessert - chocolate mousse and coffee

My friends and I enjoyed the wonderful food and wine, as well as each other's company. It was a relaxing evening away from the list making, shopping and wrapping. Good food, good friends - and a moose wearing a wreath :-)

Happy Wednesday!

Welcoming Christmas Foyer

When you come to my home during the holidays, the first thing you see is my tall Christmas tree that fits perfectly in the two story foyer. I love the soft glow of the lights and the welcoming feel it brings, front and center, when you enter.

My tree is decorated in warm red and bright gold ornaments, sparkly gold garland and soft gold bows.

These sweet, burlap birds were a new addition this year and I think they add a nice, natural element to contrast with the gold.

While all these ornaments make the tree pretty, it is the sentimental ornaments that make the tree special to our family. Each ornament tells a story and makes our tree unique to us.

My stairway railing stands out next to the tree with color and a touch of gold. I put together a garland with red berries and gold branches and wound it around the railing all the way to the open second floor.

Hanging vases are filled with seasonal and natural elements with an unexpected sparkle added for fun.

Other welcoming touches include the handmade paper angel on top of the tree, the small heart ornaments that hang from a mirror going up the stairs, a cute arrangement for the inside of the front door and a bright red jingle bell pillow that hangs from a doorknob

The red and gold colors are warm and welcoming touches that bring the warmth of Christmas to my foyer.

Have a merry day!

Bunco Progressive Party

Friday night, my neighborhood Bunco group celebrated Christmas with our annual progressive party. The first stop was at my house for martinis and a few light appetizers, to get us started. The fun part for me is getting my home ready for company - getting out the pretty martini glasses, putting the flowers in a vase and making sure the cute details like my santa hat charm are in place.

The candles on the mantle and tables were lit for soft, flickering light.

The white lights were shining brightly on my foyer Christmas tree and on the mini trees on the front porch.

The food was ready for my guests to help themselves, as I served the festive Berry Merry Martinis.

We made a toast to the evening and the holidays, before we headed down the street to the next stop, where we would play Bunco and finish the evening with a gift exchange.

It was a fun to usher in the holiday season, with a group that has been together for over 15 years. We have known each other since our kids were little and playing in the neighborhood together. So, we celebrate not only Christmas, but our friendship throughout the years.

Happy Monday!
