Father's Day at My Sister's Pool

We had a lovely Father's Day celebration at my sister's house on Sunday afternoon. It was a day spent relaxing and talking and catching up with family. She has a lovely pool, surrounded by flowers and since the sun was shining, we found a sunny spot to sit and put our feet in the water for a time. I joined my niece and sister in law by the edge of the pool, while the dads in the group were both listening to Tigers baseball and keeping an eye on the U.S. Open.

My sister's pool is so welcoming, with its white picket fence and whimsical touches. I just love these blue and red painted chairs; such a bright splash of color next to all the plants and flowers. She definitely has a flair for making an outdoor space relaxing and fun.

Before dinner, we enjoyed some delicious appetizers on her deck and I brought an old summer standby; Skinny Buffalo Chicken Dip. This is a Skinnytaste recipe (always fabulous) and doesn't sacrifice any flavor for fewer calories. I make it in the summer for backyard barbecues and picnics, because it is very good served at room temperature or even cold, whichever suits your taste. The original pin and recipe can be found here. I use half the amount of hot sauce and it still has a kick, but adjust as you wish.

Happy Monday!

  2. Your sister's pool does look beautiful with all the plants and the white fencing! The chairs not only look good, but those are also comfortable to sit in! Sounds like you had a great Father's Day. I'm going to check out your recipe for the dip. Looks yummy!

  3. It all looks very welcoming. I'm curious to know what potted plant is growing next to the blue chair. We have herbs planted in beds around our pool, and I am always looking for new ideas.

  7. The golf was actually pretty exciting : ) I'll have to try the skinny version of the dip...we love Buffalo Chicken dip, but I mostly have it at neighborhood gatherings where we can count on someone to contribute that dish. I've never made it myself.

  8. It sounds like everyone had the most fantastic time. The pool area looks like it came straight from a movie, with all the white picket fences that surround it, along with the loveliest garden ever. I do hope that the welcoming vibe of the pool keeps you coming back to it. After all, swimming is one of the best ways to unwind. Thanks for sharing that, Vicki! All the best to you and your family! :)

  9. Father's Day and Mother's Day are always such strange holidays. For my family they have always been very peaceful and slow days. We get up and go out to brunch and then come back home and just all watch tv together or play a board game. Those kind of days rarely seem to happen if you do not make effort.

  10. This is a really encouraging blog- I'm not quite at the empty nest stage yet, but I'm close enough to start dreading it. Good to see all the positive stuff coming up down the road, bit more freedom ahead. A bit easier if my sister had a lovely pool like yours though! Looks like you all had a great day.
