Chocolate Chip Pretzel Cookies

Who doesn't love a good chocolate chip cookie? And, this recipe gives a new sweet, salty twist to the classic cookie with the addition of broken pretzel pieces. I took these to my last tailgate and they disappeared from the plate before the day was even half over.

With so many having peanut allergies, using pretzels instead of adding nuts in the cookie dough is a great way to give plain, old chocolate chip cookies some interest. This is a pretty classic chocolate chip cookie recipe and in fact you could even use your favorite family recipe and just add in 2 cups of crushed pretzels. Sometimes it is the simple ideas that are the best :-)

Chocolate Chip Pretzel Cookies

2 cups flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1 cup butter, softened

3/4 cup brown sugar

2/4 cup granulated sugar

2 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

2 1/2 cups chocolate chips

2 cups broken pretzels

In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugars, with a hand mixer. Add in eggs and vanilla and mix well, scraping the sides of the bowl. Add 1/2 flour mixture; mix well, then add rest. Stir in chocolate chips and pretzels. Using a cookie scoop or a tablespoon drop dough onto a baking sheet sprayed with cooking spray. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 minutes. Place on baking rack to cool. Enjoy!
