There were many favorite moments from the Oscar telecast last night, even though it seemed like it took an incredibly long time to finally get to the major awards. Perhaps my favorite moment, was that I was able to stay home and watch in my pajamas and cozy robe with my daughters, who both happened to be home for the night. I made a yummy Tirimisu martini ( 1 1/2 ounces creme de cacao, 1 1/2 ounces Kaluha and 1 1/2 ounces half and half ), we filled out our Oscar ballots in advance and had a wonderful time discussing all the dresses as the stars walked the red carpet.
My favorite dress of the evening, was the beautiful one worn by Cate Blanchett. I thought it was the perfect Oscar dress, because I always love a ball gown for this awards show. The colors of the evening seemed to be either this nude, blush color or shimmering metallics. She looked elegant and just right for the occasion.
Another favorite moment was when Idina Menzel sang Let It Go. She looked stunningly beautiful and gave a wonderful performance. I thought she seemed a little nervous, but is probably not used to performing for the Hollywood crowd and is more comfortable on the New York stages. She is a favorite of mine, and I could listen to her sing for hours.
And, the funniest moment of the night was when Ellen was able to get the stuffy Hollywood A-Listers to leave their seats and pose for this candid photo. The fact that it had enough retweets to break twitter for a moment shows the power of social media. Ellen was funny, irreverent and perfect for injecting a little life into the broadcast. She has the ability to chide the stars for taking themselves too seriously, without being mean.
Happy Monday!
I too agree, Ellen was fantastic. She definitely needs to host every year!! So enjoy seeing all the beautiful gowns as well. Glad you had a fun evening with the girls.
ReplyDeleteI thought Sandra Bulloch was the best dressed. I also thought that Idina was nervous and stiff and I was so mad at John Travolta for mispronouncing her name!! I loved the Twitter picture, but my favorite moment was when Matthew McC won for best actor. I love him! But I won't be watching Dallas Buyers Club.
ReplyDeleteI am a huge Ellen fan...and also of Matthew...glad both were successful!!,...:)JP
ReplyDeleteNo doubt about it, Cate's dress was a stunner.
ReplyDeleteYes, I thought Ellen was a terrific host! Loved when she had the celebs taking there cash out for the donation basket...Brad kept pulling money out of all these different pockets...too funny.
ReplyDeleteYou nailed it with this post. Best Oscar how ever. Ellen took everyone "outside the box" and made the night REAL!
ReplyDeleteLoved the pizza thingy . . .
I liked Cate Blanchetts dress a lot too, and thought this was the loveliest I've seen her. Sometimes she looks too washed out, but last night her hair and makeup were also perfect. Charlize Theron was my favorite though. Lucky you having daughters home to share it with!
ReplyDeleteEllen was great! I agree, loved Kate's dress, and that photo was a highlight...then again there was the John Travolta moment...
ReplyDeleteIt was a terrific show and Ellen kept it light and intimate - a hard task. Loved the pizza gag too. And I think that most of the fashions were right on this year - nothing to wild, just movie stars looking like movie stars. Isn't that what we want to see at the Oscars.
ReplyDeleteAlso I thought the thank-you speeches from all the major winners were incredibly poignant this year - very moving.
I bet it was fun watching with your daughters. I haven't watched any kind of awards show in years and years. In fact, we don't watch tv at all anymore. I starting watching Blue Jasmine on the flight back from Sri Lanka but couldn't finish it. Cate Blanchett is a wonderful actress. And I love Ellen -- she's always great and funny! Have a wonderful day. Tammy
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the show, and the GOWNS:) My favorite moment was Let it GO also! Have a blessed day dear friend, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful gowns and so many great movies this year! Your cocktail looks delicious:) Ellen did a great job and the selfie was the hysterical! xxleslie
ReplyDeleteI agree that it took too long to get to the biggies..I think it's to hold on to their audience but people like me fall asleep..Ellen was great..
ReplyDeleteIsn't it grand to watch that with girlfriends? I did, too, and it was so much more fun with people to share opinions.
ReplyDeleteI loved the show as well! I was fortunate to be visiting my grown daughter is Seattle and sat with her and drank champagne! My favorite moment was Lupita's speech, favorite dress Charlize's black dress, loved Ellen! Loved the tweet and when I saw Brad Pitt passing out pizza! Gotta love it. Great post!
