If you like to read as much as I do, you are always on the look out for recommendations of favorite books that others have read. There are many sources; from friends to Amazon reviews, and even blog posts. I found a really good alternative source that I would like to recommend.
The BlogHer website has a book club page, with one of the best lists of popular books that I have found. There is a wide variety of genres and the list has corresponding book reviews from several different reviewers. The list is updated frequently, so there is always something new to read. Some of the books listed currrently, that I have enjoyed, are Lake of Dreams, The Weird Sisters and How to be An American Housewife.
My book club meets tomorrow and I will be picking this book for the next month's reading choice. I found this reccomendation from a blogger's book review (here). So far, I am enjoying it - I am about 1/3 done. There is great characterization and the gardening sub plot is a metaphor for the issues the characters are going through. Sometimes it is hard to pick a book for a book club, when there are so many different tastes. You just have to go with what you enjoy. For me, a book club is a great opportunity to read books that I wouldn't normally choose. With the added bonus of friends, food and wine :-)
Happy Wednesday!
Vicki, that initial photo snagged me. Any BOOKS sign will do it. lol Your book club selection sounds like an interesting read. I'll have to check it out! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendations. I will have to look at that list on BlogHer.
ReplyDeleteThanks for another great source for books! I like Goodreads.com also!
ReplyDeleteI would love to join some book clubs and download more books to read, which reminds me I need to finish Eat Pray Love.
