Thoughts for Thursday...healthy breakfast, college football, etc.

Things I am thinking about today...

  • In the state of Michigan, the big college football rivalry is between Michigan State University and the University of Michigan. The big game is not for a few weeks, but this is what it looks like at my house on every football Saturday. My husband and I are MSU alumni and Melissa is currently a student there. Megan is a recent U of M grad and we love to represent her allegiance too. It is an odd sight in this state, but we enjoy, proudly showing our ties to both schools :-)
  • This is my new favorite breakfast in the morning. Put 1/2 cup oatmeal in a mason jar. Sprinkle on a handful of golden raisins. Sprinkle on cinnamon and Splenda to taste. Pour 1/2 cup skim milk over this. Put lid on jar and leave in fridge overnight. Oats will absorb milk overnight and be creamy and delicious. I like a quick, healthy breakfast in the morning and I like that it is ready for me when I get up. With Diabetes, portion control is important, and this is the perfect serving of healthy carbs and protein.

  • I am packing this morning for a quick trip to Florida. Megan and I are flying to the Tampa/Clearwater area to visit my in-laws, for a few days. My husband has to stay behind and work, so it will be a special mother/daughter trip, and we will have fun, lounging by the pool, reading and making a few tropical drinks.
I am putting fall on hold, for a few days fun in the sun, but will be ready to bring out my fall decorations when I return. Happy Thursday!

  1. Really dumb question - the milk is in lieu of hot water? and it gets soft? Nice idea.

Hope you have a great time in Florida!!

  6. I think it's nice that you represent your daughter's school even though you didn't go there (and it's your rival school). I attended my parent's rival school as well...but they haven't been able to stomach any kind of public support (i.e. flags, shirts, memorabilia) like you did. So nice job! Enjoy your trip to Florida--sounds like it will be relaxing!

  9. I went to high school in Dunedin FL, right down the road from Clearwater (THEY were OUR rivals!). In FL the big rivalry is between Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles, but there are many "mixed" households. Have fun in FL! My old state! Ann

  10. The oatmeal looks like a grand idea, although as a diabetic who can't use splenda I'd prolly substitute stevia.

Have a wonderful time with your daughter!

  13. That breakfast sounds delicious!!! My kids are super huge fans of oatmeal and anything that can just be ready when we wake up is an added bonus :-) And I love that you have both flags flying at your house. A neighbor of ours has a son at Iowa and a daughter at Souther Illinois and they actually had a half/half flag custom made so that they could fly both at the same time. SUPER cute idea :-)

Thanks for linking up with me today Vicki! Hope you guys have a lovely vacation!!!
