I love the idea of taking something made for one purpose and finding a way to use in for another. We bought this fire pit a few years ago and quickly decided it had too much of an open flame to be near all the trees we have surrounding our house. It was stored for a while, until we could figure out how to use it and because I thought it was a very interesting looking piece. I decided to try to plant flowers in the shallow metal bowl in the middle and see if they would live. Petunias seemed like a good choice, because of their shallow roots.
It was a success! The petunias have done very well and the fire pit turned planter fits nicely in an out of the way area of my backyard patio. When I entertain in the backyard, I put chairs around it and guests are able to use the mosaic tiled edges as an area to rest drinks.
It's great to reuse, repurpose and recycle. My daughter Megan, who believes in all things green and environmentally friendly, will be proud of my efforts :-)

DeleteBrilliant! I absolutely adore it.
ReplyDeleteNice work Vicki, I love this! I did the same thing with my fire pit but instead of flowers we fill it with ice and use it as a cooler for juice boxes for the kids when we have parties. They love that they can reach them without asking an adult for help.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea too!

ReplyDeleteI just love your clever idea! We bought our firepit six years ago and used it for one summer. It has sat in the backyard for the past five years without one use. Now, that I've seen your post...My firepit will bloom this next Spring...Thanks to you!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to know you through our sweet friend, Jann's "Share Your Cup Thursday" post.

ReplyDeleteWe recently took the glass off our round table and put it on top of our firepit unit so it can be a table when not being used for a fire!
Love this idea:) HUGS!
