Buttons and Yarn

For some reason lately, I am drawn to neutrals. Even for Valentine's Day color, it can be a lovely contrast to any pink and red decor. A neutral is calming to the eye, especially when red is the predominant color. I wanted to make a smaller version of this yarn wrapped Valentine's tree and my usual method of wandering Michael's for inspiration, led me to find a pack of Valentine's buttons. I knew these simple buttons, in muted colors, would be the perfect embellishment to the thick, cream colored yarn I had my eye on for this tree.

Materials needed: foam tree form; small size, thick gauge yarn, any embellishment ( I used buttons), scissors and a glue gun

Directions: place a drop of glue at base of foam tree and attach yarn end. Begin to wrap yarn tightly around tree form. Continue wrapping as tightly as possible, placing a drop of glue here and there, so the yarn remains secure. Finish top as neatly as possible and secure end with glue. Wrap another layer of yarn in a loose spiral for texture and interest. Glue on your chosen embellishments, as you desire.

I love the simple, sweetness of this tree and the subtle colors are so pretty and unexpected. Valentine's Day is of course all about red, but a neutral piece of decor can be a nice touch.

Happy Wednesday!
