There is something magical about candlelight, as dusk falls in the evening. Often, I will light the candles on the mantel, giving the room a soft glow to end the day. The colors become softer, more muted, and the mantel takes on a whole new look, from the daylight hours.
The different and unique textures of the pumpkins are cast in shadow, giving each one a different shape and texture. The golden glow of the candles highlights the shades of orange, red and brown.
The details become somewhat blurred in the soft light, but the shadows create their own beauty; a softness at the end of the day.
My fall mantel is a labor of love this year, as it is every year, with my collection of unique pumpkins of all shapes, colors and textures. There are a few additions here and there, and I added the window frame to give some height, along with rustic charm.

ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more ~ I just love candlelight. It's so much softer and prettier and feels more intimate. I am always lighting candles on my mantle and in my fireplace. Even though our fireplace works, I fill it with candles instead - lol.
