Good Reads

I have been reading a lot lately, enjoying my pumpkin spice coffee from my Keurig, wrapped up in a cozy blanket and savoring these beautiful early fall days. When I am in the mood to read, I tend to stumble upon books that I wouldn't normally pick up. In my search for something new and different, I found two quirky books, both written in unusual formats, but really good reads. Both were touching, humorous and even thought provoking. And, I didn't want either to end - the sign for me of a really good book :-)

Bernadette is a brilliant architect, turned neurotic housewife in this funny, irreverent story about a daughter's search for her missing mother. We see what led to her disappearance through a series of emails, letters and text messages. Is Bernadette really crazy, or just smarter than everyone else? You will laugh at many of the situations in this book, as well as be touched by the strong mother daughter bond.

Another unusual format, begins from the first page in this book, when the reader realizes they are experiencing the main character's funeral through her eyes. She has been killed in a biking accident, but we soon find out it may have been something more. The late, lamented Molly Marx goes on a quest from the after life to find out if her death was really an accident or if it was in fact a murder. She visits family and friends to see how they are coping with her death and her commentary is hilarious at times. I was caught up in the mystery and it is a page turner until the end.

Have a great weekend!

  12. I always appreciate your suggestions Vicki. The second one sounds like The Lovely Bones, with more levity. They are going on my list. When my brain is ready I will go on a reading rampage! Ann
